Friends, family: Y2K was a good year for us. Cecilia is moving her thesis along and is convincing the Fine Arts Research Institute (at the UNAM) to prioritize the projects affecting the photographic archive she is responsible for -- projects such as the expansion of storage space and improvements in the cold storage facilities. As for myself, I continue to learn new and interesting software technologies, and the high-tech industry shows no sign of slowing down its innovation drive. Our families also had a good year: my brother Eddie started a job at a bank in Lima; Susie moved into her own house in Washington DC a few weeks ago; Cecilia's brother Alfonso just graduated a Pharmaceutical BioChemist from the UNAM. Our newest hobby is to take our new mountain bikes out for short rides and to prepare for a longer trip some day. Travels, you ask? We visited Costa Rica and San Francisco USA towards the beginning of the year; London and Paris in springtime. My mother visited us in October, giving us the perfect excuse to travel to the states of Oaxaca and Michoacán, Teotihuacán, Puebla, Cholula, among other interesting places. We'll see the last sun of the (Western) millenium from Playa del Carmen (on the Mexican Caribbean coast)... and we'll meet old friends, dive, enjoy the beaches and see a few Maya ruins that have been recently discovered and restored. Here are a few photographs- one from Christmas eve (last night), and the other at Hierve el Agua in the state of Oaxaca. All the best to you in this New Year... and hope to see you somewhere!
